Kakadu Accommodation

Because of Kakadu's remote location, all visitors to the National Park need to arrange their accommodation well before they arrive. Kakadu National Park is one of the icons of the Northern Territory's tourist attractions and people come here from around the world to see its magnificent scenery, capture the essence of the Aboriginal peoples history in the region and see its fantastic wildlife.

Accommodation in the Kakadu National Park is limited. It is about four hours drive from Darwin, and when you get there, you need a base for a few days so you can go out into the park and explore its fantastic attractions. Everyone wants to take a boat ride on the Victoria river to see the jumping crocodiles and take a cruise on Yellow Water to catch a Barramundi and see the flocks of nesting and migrating birds. Nourlangie Rock is a fascinating destination with the cave walls, surrounding the base of the rock, covered with ancient Aboriginal cave paintings. The rock is overhung by the magnificent sandstone escarpments that surround Kakadu National Park. Other must see destinations in the park include beautiful Jim Jim Falls. Centrally located in Kakadu is the small township of Jabiru which is a great place to stay. The Gadgaju Crocodile resort can be found here as well as some self contained apartment and cabin style accommodation.

The other two main accommodation places are located within the park itself. Aurora Kakadu provides resort accommodation of a three star standard and at Cooinda there is both cabin and caravan park style acommodation. Kakadu National Park is one of the most important places for tourists to visit while touring through the Northern Territory and because of its popularity its accommodation is always under pressure.
